About Us

Welcome to Hamersay Hotel. I am Lorna, and my husband's name is John Docherty. In 2008, we moved from the east coast of Scotland to the Western Isles to take over Lochmaddy Hotel, which gave us 16 years of experience in hotel ownership.

In April 2022, we had the opportunity to lease Hamersay House from the previous owners. Then, in February 2024, we purchased the hotel and made it our own. We've been refurbishing it inside and out, and this will continue as time goes on.

Let me introduce you to some of our staff:

Daniel - He has been with us in the hotels since 2017 and mainly works in the evenings, so you will see him at night during dinner.

Simon - He joined us in April 2024 and is initially with us for the season. He works in the mornings, serving breakfast and managing emails.

Lewis: He is our son and has worked in the hotel industry since he was 14. After a 4-year break as an engineer in the Royal Navy, he has returned to work with us. He is versatile and can handle various roles within the hotel.

Eilidh—She is our daughter-in-law and Lewis's wife. She is the kitchen manager at Lochmaddy Hotel and also cooks some shifts at Hamersay. She is responsible for our excellent homemade cakes.

Thomas - He is John's brother and has been cooking at Hamersay for the past 18 months.

These are our main staff, but others may cover days off and holidays. They aim to ensure your stay is as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Please feel free to reach out to them if you need any assistance.
